Exact pixels vs percentage

Use exact pixels when a form or website tells you the required dimensions (e.g. 600×600px). Use percentage to quickly shrink or enlarge while keeping proportions.

What does DPI actually change?

DPI (dots per inch) doesn't touch your pixel dimensions — it only sets how large the image prints. A 3000×2000px photo is ~7.6 megapixels either way; at 300 DPI it prints at 10"×6.7", at 72 DPI the same pixels would print at ~41.7"×27.8" (usually too soft for print, fine for screens). The chosen DPI is written into the file's own metadata for JPG and PNG, so photo software and print shops read it automatically — WebP output keeps the default resolution tag since browsers can't write custom WebP metadata.
